Course Description

A two-day course was designed for Government managers and is part of the longer 4.5 day Conflict Management & Conflict Resolution course.  Format includes conflict research, personal assessment of behavior in a conflict and identification of “Hot Buttons” (Conflict Dynamics Profile (CDP) and the Thomas-Kilmann (TKI), re-framing and self-management as conflict management tools, communication skills as a resolution tool. This course is very interactive and includes action planning. Instruction with PowerPoint, structured activities in small and large groups, action planning and discussion groups are utilized. The CDP and TKI can be taken on-line beforehand.  (Assessments utilized:  CDP & TKI)

 

Learning Objectives: After attending this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand their own Conflict Dynamics Profile(CDP) and the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI): including habits, assumptions and automatic reactions which aid or hinder in managing or resolving conflict
  • Understand the importance of examining perceptions and assumptions
  • Understand the impact of unmanaged conflict on self, others and the organization
  • Develop conflict management skills and understanding through practice in a variety of conflict scenarios
  • Understanding the importance of communication skills, especially listening, inquiry and framing and re-framing
  • Develop conflict management processes for use in groups or teams
  • Develop an Action Plan for further skill development
